Photography

This is a response to the DVD shown in class on American Photography and the chapter in your book on the camera arts. List at least one profound effect that photography/picture-making has had on American Life. Do you agree that as a vehicle of expression, the medium of photography has influenced what we buy, how we dress, matters of life and death, medicine, science, and war?

In addition, research a camera artist on google or other search engine. Choose one and describe why the work of this person is important to you. You may include links to images in this response.

Midterm Exam

Midterm Exam will be due at beginning of class on Wednesday!

Directions: Research an Artist either from the text or from the blog postings. Find at least two sources other than text either online or books. Your Opinion

After watching Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock in class, what do you think about the painting. Do you think it is an authentic Pollock? How do you feel about the artist's work? Do you think Teri Horton should sell it for a lower amount than what she thinks it is worth? (fifty million)

The World as We See It/Percieve It

The Gates project in New York City, Central Park by Cristo and Jeanne-Claude

Read Chapter One of Sayre's A World of Art. In addition to The Gates project in New York City, Central Park by Cristo and Jeanne-Claude, we consider different approaches to the landscape--works by a nineteenth-century American, a fourteenth-century Chinese, an aboriginal Australian, and a twentieth-century American--in order to see how different artists from very different times and places, respond to the same fundamental phenomenon, and the world that surrounds them.

Reflection: Rather than emphasizing differences, please write one paragraph listing some of the similarities that you observe in these very different approaches.

Feel free to use descriptive language. You may include links to images if you would like. You may write about the meaning of architecture, art, or symbols from these sites.

Ancient World

Choose one work of art from Chapter 18, and do a little extra research about it online. Then create a fictional story (a paragraph is fine)about a time machine. Pretend that you have traveled back in time and discovered that work of art or architecture. What did you see. Give a paragraph report.

Have a great 4th of July. Be safe!!
