When I'm finished with my Bachelors, I want to join the JET program and move to Japan for 2 years so that I can teach English. My name is Marc Kuiper. I just moved to Tampa in May of 2008. I lived in Jacksonville Florida for 11 years. I am 20 years old and moved here on a crazy whim and haven't regretted it yet. As far as art is concerned, I really don't have a particular style that interests me. I went to an art convention in Ybor City this December and found myself being pulled to abstract and somewhat gothic art, as well as paintings with an assortment of colors. I'm majoring in child psychology. Art is one of the strongest forms of expression done particularly by childeren. By taking this course I plan to have better insight to all forms of art for both my job and personal interest.

I'm Colin Pritchard, native of Brandon, Florida, former Teaching and Film Major, currently exploring Electrical Engineering. I'm returning to school for the first time in a year since I decided to quit going and try working... didn't do so hot. Now I'm returning to school with a sense of purpose and understanding of why I'm here and what I want to accomplish. I enjoy art from the Romantic and Gothic periods, particularly the American Romantic period. I also enjoy Power Metal, cinematography and photography, and those crazy Japanese cartoons. It's nice to meet ya'll.

Hey! My name is Gabrielle Vella. I am finishing up my Associates Degree in Engineering. I plan on transferring to UF to receive my Bachelors in Civil and Environmental Engineering. After that, I plan on acquiring my Masters Degree and Doctorate Degree in Engineering as well. My favorite paintings occured during the Neo-Classical era. I like these in particular because even in the most war-like paintings, there is still a sense of romanticism about it.

As it is already obvious, my full name is Austin L. Palmisano. It was a name given to me at a very young age. I am 18 years older now and there is a possibility I shall grow even older. I find it entirely absurd. My major is titled Liberal Arts and so it’s fitting that I take Understanding Visual Arts ☺. But really I do enjoy art. I envy when one can convey a thought, emotion, or expression through any sort of medium. I feel it necessary to further my knowledge in this particular subject, so I find my self quite thrilled about it all. I sometimes attempt to create art, mostly trite acrylic paintings and watercolor. So now I plan to graduate and attend a four-year institution while majoring in Psychology. I have always enjoyed a somewhat varied music selection, I am fond of writing and reading, and in an idealistic unrealistic world I am actually a paid writer, director, and producer of features and short films.

Zach Mays said...

My name is Zach Mays. I am currently in my second year of HCC working towards my Associates before I move on to USF, where I hope to major in Philosophy or Religious Studies. I am also interested in writing, although I have little to show for such an interest; I can never finish anything I start. As for the art that I enjoy, I can say that I prefer the more surreal or imaginative, even if it is in the painting of the ordinary. I don't know much, but I have found that I like Magritte and Chagall, as well as Van Gogh; my knowledge doesn't extend much beyond that but I like what I have seen. I am also keen on varied styles of music, and film, and I enjoy reading; my favorite authors include Franz Kafka, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Kurt Vonnegut.

Hello, my name is Flor Roche. I am going into a career of Illustration. I have always loved art ever since I could hold a pencil. At the beginning of the fall term, I realized that animation wasn't really my thing. It had already been a year until I realized that my dream was to become an illustrator. I am currently trying to finish my second year at HCC and also trying to put up my webcomic. Yes, I have a webcomic Although, the site is not up yet, I ,instead, post it on my account on Deviantart. I hope to launch the comic soon on a separate website. I pretty much can do all media but my best are digital and watercolor. My hobbies include cosplay, drawing, voice acting, and comics. I am looking forward to this spring term.

Briana Gamel said...

Hello my name is Briana Gamel. I live in Plant City and am currently in my first year at HCC-planning on attending USF in the fall and possibly majoring in International Studies or English-I am undecided as of now. Honestly, I don't know much about art but I find it extremely interesting and am eager to learn more. I recently went to New York and visited MOMA and the Guggenheim museum and saw some really thought-provoking pieces. I look forward to expanding my knowledge on the subject.

Bradley Miller said...

Hi, my name is Bradley Miller. I'm a Liberal Arts student and will be finishing up in the Fall. Right now, my plans are to transfer to USF and major in Geology. I wouldn't really consider myself an art fan, except for maybe music and movies. I hope to change that with this class though.

Jamie N. Blitch said...

My name is Jamie Blitch and I'm currently finishing up my AA and AS degrees. My major is in Sign Language Interpretation and my goal, after graduation, is to work in the school system interpreting for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I like all kinds of music and love movies; as far as paintings are concerned I don't really have a favorite era. I like paintings that leave me wondering "what is that person's story"; for example, Vermeer's "Girl With the Pearl Earring".

Ramona Hill said...

My name is Ramona Hill. My major is chemistry. I plan to finish school at USF and start a career in forensic science. I paint and sketch in my spare time. Dali and Da Vinci are my two favorite artist, but all in all I like alot of different forms of art. As much as I love art I know I have alot to learn, so I am looking forward to this class.

Hi everyone! My name is Clarissa Lime. I'm starting my AA here at HCC and i plan on moving next semester to gainsville to enroll at santa fe and hopefully go on to UF. I'm majoring in science communications and disorders in order to become a speech therapist for hard of hearing children. I am very excited to be in this class because art has always been apart of my life.I paint in my spare time, which unfortunatly i don't have much of. I also have participated in shows since i was in the first grade, so i guess you can say i have a nack for it. Dali has inspired me over the past four years. I hope to gain more knowledge as an artist from this class and i look forward to it.

Hey my name is Kaleigh Bassett. I was born in Tampa and have been here ever since. I am finishing up this semester at HCC, then packing up and transferring to PBA (Palm Beach Atlantic) to continue my education toward a career as a pharmacist. I decided to go to PBA because I can go to school and walk across the street to the beach. I am very excited to meet new people and get out of Tampa for a while.

kaleigh said...

oops... i left this part out...

I don't really like art to much, probably b/c I don't know how to appreciate it. But, if I had to pick one kind it would probably be Black and White Photography...

Aviree Jordan said...

Hi my name is Aviree Jordan. I am a freshman and I plan on attending the University of Florida after a get my AA. My major is business, I am not exactly sure what I want to do with that yet but I hope that by all the classes that I have to take I will be able to figure it out. I am really excited to learn about art and how people view the world through their eyes. I am really interested in old european art and hieroglyphics. Kinda weird I know but I have always found them beautiful and well awesome! I also figured this would be a good class for the reasons that when I am in the work place I can have a very intellectual conversation with others.

I am working on my Associates in Arts degree in Business Management. Upon completion of my Associates Degree, I plan on transferring to University of South Florida to pursue my Bachelors Degree. I have no current knowledge of the arts. However, hopefully after taking this course I will have a better understanding and appreciation for them.

Hi there, my name is most likely Aaron Edelson. In fact, it is most definitely Aaron Edelson. I love little side dishes and fungus. My major is LA Science. Some hectic internal timing: fresh from high school found me without the tenacity nor fortitude to willfully participate in my educational career at USF, so BAM, here I am. A little about myself, I'm a You trapped in a Me's body. Except I'm nobody, so take that. Most of you would probably get more bored and annoyed if I listed all the things I enjoyed, so we'll settle for saying there's not very much that I don't enjoy. Although specifically, I'd have to agree with, SeƱor Griffin, surrealism and psychedelic anything brings my mind to a climax and seems better than every roller coaster I've never been on. That being said, Philosophy is fun, so that's the plan when I get back around to USF. Further unjustified checkered kickers: I think careers are silly, money is stupid, and anyone who takes themselves seriously is in need of tripping over their own feet constantly. Especially if they're right side up. But that's just my opinion. I'm proud of myself for avoiding profanity and drug references throughout this whole diatribe... Hahaha! So make off, kids everywhere, with every envied direction! Convoluted? I'm a failure.

Hi my name is Paul Larizadeh. Im finally going back to school after spending four years in the Marine Corp. Im working on my associates degree in buisness administratration but im going to change it to marketing. I chose this class because i consider my self to be artistic, although i cant draw or paint but i do play guitar and piano. and i also appreciate artwork and the time and dedication it takes create it. well I have nothing else to say except its nice to meet everyone.

Charlene Dodge said...

Hello, my name is Charlene Dodge. I am currently attending HCC to finish my Associates degree in Mass Communications. I have about six more classes and then I'm off to USF for my Bachelors. Eventually, I would like to use my training to become an Advertising Copywriter. I want to be the "brains" and give the creative input behind many of the commercials one would see on TV, in magazines, on the internet, billboards, etc. I believe that this class will be helpful to me considering that advertising can be a form of art, especially in a visual sense. With that being said, I am definitely looking forward to learning more!
As for art in general, I enjoy abstract and what I thought was contemporary art. I like basic designs with simple lines and shapes as well as types with color splashes. I've even made a few pieces myself that are hanging in my house! If I wasn't working full-time, teaching skating and going to school part-time, I'd definitely like to create some more! Besides that, I’ve recently found a new interest in digital photography. I'm not a professional by any means, but I enjoy taking pictures things such as modern and interesting architecture, birds, flowers and practically anything that catches my eye that is out-of-the-ordinary.

Hi!
My name is Chyna Hill. I'm currently still in high school. As of now, I'm seventeen years old and I plan to major in Neuroscience. I would also like to get minor in Psychology. Where art is concerned, I don't know enough about it to decide whether I like it or not. Other than music, movies, and books, I'm not sure which other types of art I like. I'm more of a science and psychology person. However, I'm intrigued to learn more about it and I'll definitely keep an open mind towards the subject.

Hello my name is Angelia Hunt. I perfer to go by Angie...it is easier! :) I am 3 classes away from FINALLY finishing my AS here at HCC, and then I am on to USF. My major there will probably be Medical Science. Then, on to a Masters program most likely in Nursing or Sports Med. I HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO!!! With the Lord on my side I will make it some day. :) I do not have a particular interest in any certain area of art at this time.... simply due to my lack of knowledge of the subject. I actually initially startd my associates degree in art in 1998 because I wanted to be a teacher and I liked to draw. BUT I found out very quickly that I SUCKED at it and my sense of imagination was near zilch. So, I am now looking forward to finding something intersting in this class that may spark my personal interest in some form of art that I can look at and NOT draw or paint.

Hello, my name is Shannon Tierney. This is my last semester at HCC (finally!) I am wrapping up my A.A. Business degree, and I will persue an International Business B.A. with minor in French at USF starting in the fall. Hopefully in due time I will get my masters degree at NYU. I am originally from New Jersey so it would be nice to get back in an area that has real weather and real seasons.

Regarding my love for art, do not be fooled by my pursuit of what you may think is a dry and boring business degree. I appreciate art on all kinds of levels and am ready and willing to expand my knowledge of it and consequently my mind even more. Art, to me, is Pavarotti singing Nessun dorma from Puccini's Turandot as is the Chartres cathedral in France. It is something that has been instilled in me since childhood and once it is there it never leaves. I especially consider the application of cosmetics as an art as I consider myself somewhat of a decent makeup artist who works at the Lancome counter in Dillards.

Hi, my name is Alan Nelson. I am returning from a short 23 year break from school to pursue a career in the medical field. Currently, I own and operate a concrete/pool business located in Brandon. The recent down turn in the economy has made me realize that I want to find a career that is a little more stable. I don't see myself at 60 years of age doing what I am doing. I also don't want to look like a piece of beef jerky with eyes. The sun is really getting brutal.
As far as the art that I'm interested in, my wife and I became somewhat interested in paintings at a art auction that we attended on a cruise. We picked up a few paintings that we liked and look forward to adding to our small collection.

Hello I’m Joshua Peterson. This is my first semester at HCC, I recently transferred from USF. I am pursuing my AA degree in secondary education. My goal is to be a high school history teacher. I am not a very complex person but you shouldn’t judge me by my rough exterior. To be honest I am not in this course solely due to my interest in the study of the visual arts. Nonetheless I chose this course because it seemed to be the most interesting out of the courses I had to choose from. Since sitting through my first night in the class on Wednesday I definitely feel I made the best decision. You Ms. Hoffman strike me as a very interesting teacher and all my fellow classmates seemed to be enthusiastic and I look forward to our meetings throughout the semester. As for my favorite art, I haven’t a clue. Then again that’s why I’m in the course. I look forward to learning more about art and which forms of art I am most interested in.

WE CAN ONLY GUESS POSSIBLE ORIGINS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD ART(Claribel Jimenez)

Nude Woman from La Magdelaine Cave at Penne:

Some cave pictures may provide a clue to the origin of some tradition of fertility magic. We all know how our imagination sometimes makes us see all sorts of images in chance formations such as clouds or blots. A Stone Age hunter, his mind fills with thoughts of the big game on which he depended for survival, would have been even more likely to recognize such animals as he stared at the rock surfaces of his cave, and to attribute deep significance to his discovery. Perhaps at first reinforced the outlines of such images with a charred stick from the fire, so that others, too, could see what he had found.

A striking example of this process of creation is the remarkable Nude Woman from La Magdelaine Cave at Penne, one of the rare instances of human figure in Paleolithic art. The leg and torso have been carved from natural ledges of the rock in such a way that the shapes seem to emerge almost imperceptibly from stone. The right arm is barely visible and the head appears to be omitted altogether, for lack of “co-operation” on the part of the nature surface. What type of ritual may have centered on this figure we can guess.

Hi my name is Stephen Kovach. This semester will be my second semester at HCC and my first at the HCC Brandon Campus. It would appear that I am in no rush to obtain my degree being that I am twenty and only have one semester complete, but that is just because I just got a late start. I would like to have my AA in Engineering as soon as possible so I can make the transfer the USF or maybe another college, I not sure yet, it is a little bit away. I grew up in Tampa and am not sure if I am ready to leave yet. To be honest when I went in to register for my class this semester an Art class was not at the top of my list, but I don’t think it was ever out of the question. I don’t know much about art as far as type and genera’s, but I know I like history and learning. I think it is great to use art as a tool to look deep into the past to try and understand to really people back than were just like us, just raised in a complete different culture.
P.S. I apologize for the late post I have had some compute problems over the last couple days. It will not happen again.

My school interests include architecture and well as graphic design with Illustrator and Photoshop. I enjoy art in all type and form. The Queen Nefertiti really caught my attention because she looked really beautiful, and I wanted to find out if she was actually that beautiful. It turns out that she was known throughout Egypt for her beauty, and her name translates to "the beautiful (or perfect) one has arrived". She was married to the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten, and they were known for changing Egypt's religion from a polytheistic religion to a monotheistic religion. It is also believed that she ruled after her husband's death, which shows that she has strength and power.

Hello, I came in for the 2nd class for my first time. I did create a blog, as you requested, and not to sure why I did it, but if you request it I'll complete. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: My full name is Vaughn S. Henry, and - this information is for your eyes only - I am TRINI' heritage and that stands for Trinidad and Tobago, have 2 degrees and a MCSA Certification along with FL NOTARY, 6 months of law school, credits completed towards 2 masters - one in public administration and the other in business administration, love art and expression in general and think u may be a PRINCE fan like myself - his creativity is MIND-BLOWING! I love all art that is true to the artist. In other words, I appreciate reality, not script. Appreciate impulse and not orchestrated. I truly believe art can satisfy the soul, peak the intellect, challenge the mind, and touch the heart. See? That was artistic. :) Have a good MLK day tomorrow! Henry

Hello my name is Kris Gusha. I am majoring in engineering with the goal of becoming an electrical engineer. My favorite type of art is graffiti because it tends to focus on the current ties and events going on within a cartain area and also because it shows a lot of emotion.
